Formål/Goal: At give de studerende kendskab til hovedtrækkene af insekters og andre landleddyrs evolution, morfologi (sammenlignende og funktionelle aspekter) og biologi. Endvidere at give de studerende et grundlæggende formkendskab med særligt henblik på den danske fauna./To introduce students to the principles of evolution, morphology (comparative and functional aspects) and biology of insects and other terrestrial arthropods. Moreover, students will acquire a basic knowledge of the diversity of these animal groups, with special emphasis on the Danish fauna.

Indhold/Contents: Problemerne vedrørende leddyr-fylogeni resumeres; evolution og fylogenetisk systematik diskuteres mere dybtgående for arachniders og for myriapoder/insekters vedkommende, delvis under inddragelse af uddøde former. Morfologi og diversitet præsenteres i høj grad ved hjælp af præparater./An introductory outline of arthropod phylogeny. More in-depth discussion of the evolution and phylogenetic systematics of hexapods, myriapods and arachnids; extinct taxa are briefly considered. Examination of preparations is an important component in the presentation of morphology and taxon diversity.
5 ugentlige øvelsestimer./Lab. classes, 5 weekly hours.  

Bedømmelse/Evaluation: 1 essay + en afsluttende mundtlig eksamen/1 essay + a concluding oral exam.
