Description of project: Title of PhD project: BIODIVERSITY IN SPACE: A THREE-DIMENSIONAL COMPARISON OF SPIDER FAUNAS IN EAST AFRICAN MOUNTAIN FORESTS.
The project is supported by the North-South initiative, a multidisciplinary project under the University of Copenhagen. Supervisors are Nikolaj Scharff and Henrik Enghoff from the Zoological Museum.
Aim: The present project aims to determine how spiders diversity and composition changes vertically (between canopy and forest floor) and horizontally (between areas 20 km apart). Species turn-over and richness of the spider fauna at the forest floor will be compared to that of the canopy, within a 1 hectare plot of tropical rain forest. Also species turn-over and richness of the spider fauna in the canopy will be compared at two rain forest areas 20km apart.
Research interests: East African millipedes and indicators for natural forest in Denmark.
