Description of project: A Study of Badgers (Meles meles) and Roads
Intern supervisor: Hans J. Baagøe, Extern supervisor: Aksel B. Madsen
The purpose of the first part of the project is to find out if roads can provoke a territory line of the badgers. This is done by mapping two territories of badgers which main setts are situated at each side of a main road in mid-Jutland, Denmark. The second part intents to find out more about the activity of badgers at the roads. For this purpose, sand is used for footprint identification. Two square meters of sand were placed on both side of the road at different chosen sites within the search area. The third part involve an examination of landscape parameters at places were badgers have been killed by traffic. A last part of the project involve some behavioural observations of badgers at roads.
