Reptile and amphibian faunistics

In connection with the project 'Biodiversity of tropical, montane rain forest in the Eastern Arc Mountains of Tanzania' (1991-1993) papers on the endemic snake species Crotaphopeltis tornieri* (J.B. Rasmussen), Geodipsas vauerocegae* and G. procterae* (J.B. Rasmussen, M. Andersen, and K. Howell, University of Dar-es-Salaam) have been completed, and an annotated and illustrated checklist of the amphibians of the Usambara Mountains (M. Vestergaard) have been completed.

Within the framework of 'Centre for tropical Biodiversity' a mapping project (1° x 1° spatial resolution) of the distributions of African snakes (J.B. Rasmussen, N. Burgess, C. Rahbek) and frogs (N. Burgess, C. Rahbek, with A. Schiøtz, Grevinge) has been initiated and preliminary results, together with descriptions and biological observations have been published (in Danish) for some of the snake species*. In the same framework, mapping of some African frogs has been initiated (M. Vestergaard, cand.scient. project). A mapping project on a more detailed scale has been initiated on East African snakes (J.B. Rasmussen).

A complete list of the snakes of Ethiopia* has been published (J.B.Rasmussen, with M. Largen, Liverpool Museum).
