Faunistics of Danish and Thai whales
Danish whale records for the period 1575-1991 have been compiled and critically reviewed for a faunistic analysis*, work with special emphasis on sperm whales continues (C.C. Kinze). The cetacean fauna of Thailand has been studied with special emphasis on Balaenoptera edeni (C.C. Kinze, M. Andersen, cand.scient. project). A study of the cetacean fauna of the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea has been completed (C.C. Kinze) in a research assistance program (with the Thai Fisheries Department, the Royal Forest Department of Thailand, Burapha, Chulalongkorn, and Prince of Songkhla universities). An annotated checklist of the whales and dolphins of Thailand has been prepaired and a research archive of all available data on Thai cetaceans has been set up. A large project on Thai whales has been initiated (M. Andersen, ph.d. project, C.C. Kinze) in collaboration with DANIDA and a number of Thai institutions.
