THE INVERTEBRATE DEPARTMENT OF THE ZOOLOGICAL MUSEUM
The Invertebrate Department covers invertebrates excluding terrestrial arthropods. All staff members work with marine groups, but some emeriti and students study limnic and terrestrial taxa. The Department aims at covering on a specialist basis five to six of the largest groups, and it is, accordingly, unavoidable that all curators must also take responsibility for quite a number of groups with which they are less familiar.
During the last five years a great effort has been done to extend and supplement the collections, especially through work in various parts of the North Atlantic, Greenland and Antarctica. Although costs on shiptime are heavy, a well developed network of international contacts frequently allows both staff members and students to take part in international projects where collecting can be done from foreign ships, as well as around marine laboratories in a number of countries.
