The Ikka Fjord project

In 1994, H. Thing (Danish Polar Center) rediscovered the "pillar garden" in Ikka Fjord, South Greenland and sent samples of the rich flora and fauna from the ikait sediment and columns to Zoological Museum. Since 1995 the Commission for Scientific Research in Greenland and Danish Polar Center have funded expeditions to the Ikka Fjord to investigate the ikait columns and to collect samples of their flora and fauna. A paper on the thermolabile lime mineral, ikait, has been published* (G. Høpner Petersen, R.M. Kristensen, L. Thorbjørn, and nine further authors from a variety of institutes).
