Revision and cladistic analysis of the
genera of “Ischnocolinae”
(Araneae; Mygalomorphae; Theraphosidae)
The Theraphosidae, the largest suborder within Mygalomorphae, is divided
in ten subfamilies that occur all over the world. The Ischnocolinae
shows the broadest distribution and has been considered as paraphyletic
and basal for Theraphosidae. Since the description of the genus-type,
Ischnocolus Ausserer, 1871, just a few species were recollected and
revised, and the original description contain little information. Due to
the determination of the subfamily were based in a plesiomorphic
character state, the situation of the systematics of the group is very
confusing and its limits are uncertain.
The subfamily Ischnocolinae is being revised at the genus level,
including 11 genera already described and 1 more undescribed. The
type-species of all genera will be studied and at least 3 species of
each genus will be included in the cladistic analysis. In order to study
the phylogenetic relationships among all Theraphosidae representatives,
I will include genera of all subfamilies in a larger analysis.
For the cladistic analysis, a
matrix composed of morphological characters will be analysed through the
softwares TNT and PAUP*. Species of the families Paratropididae,
Barychelidae and Nemesiidae will be used as out-group in order to verify
the monophyly of Theraphosidae.
