Harold R. Dodge had a rather short career with 20 scientific papers on
flesh flies during the years 1954-1968. He was, however, very productive
during this time and proposed a total of 30 genus-group names and 172
species-group names. Apart from a single paper describing two species of
flesh flies new to Hawaii, his entire production was on the New World fauna.
Particularly noteworthy are his major works on the flesh fly fauna from
Barro Colorado Island, the Bahamas and Jamaica, as well as his revisionary
paper on Idoneamima. Dodge was one of the first to realise the importance
of male hill-topping, and he collected extensively from several very
productive hill-tops in the south-eastern US.
