World of Flesh Flies
Juan Carlos Mariluis

Juan MariluisJuan in Patagonia I obtained my PhD in 1978 at Universidad Nacional de La Plata (Argentina), the subject of my thesis was a taxonomic revision of the Calliphoridae from Argentina.

Since 2002 I have worked on the taxonomy, ecology, and distribution of Sarcophagidae. My interests are related to different aspects of the systematics, faunistics, and biology of Calliphoridae, Muscidae, and Sarcophagidae of the Neotropical Region. I have collected flies in several areas from Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, Bolivia, and Ecuador.

One of my long-term objectives is to develop knowledge on the calyptrate Diptera of the Patagonian region. The Patagonian steppe and forests are home to many endemic taxa. Currently, I am working with Luciano Patitucci and Pablo Mulieri on Muscidae and Sarcophagidae, respectively, of these areas.
