World of Flesh Flies
Marta Isabel Wolff Echeverri

Marta at work I began to study Medical Entomology with a focus on sand flies (Phlebotominae), which is also the group I did my doctoral thesis on before I started to work with forensic entomology in 1999. Currently I am associate professor at the Biology Institute, University of Antioquia (Medellín, Colombia). I am also working on insects associated with carrion in the several climatic zones in Colombia. The flesh flies constitute a group which is always present in carrion and they are of great importance for estimating the PMI. Right now I am collecting females in the field and working on breeding the species in Colombia -- I prefer the field work!
