Leif Lyneborg †

We regret to inform that Leif Lyneborg passed away on Sunday 10 September 2006.

Leif was curator emeritus at the Department of Entomology. His research focused on the taxonomy of Diptera, mainly Therevidae and Syrphidae. After publishing a revision of the world Syritta (Syrphidae) in 2005, Leif embarked on a monographic revision of all Afrotropical species of Eumerus (Syrphidae), which is a genus famous for its species-richness and complexity. With great enthusiasm and his natural talent for the recognition and separation of species, Leif managed to discover and partly describe (in manuscript form) more than 70 Eumerus new to science before he had to give in to his illness. This important work will be finished as soon as possible.
