Timing of the survey.
The 1993 survey was undertaken
from early October to mid December. The heavy rains usually start in the middle
of November. They were, however, much delayed this year - the first heavy rain showers
fell in February - and despite the reputation of the Ulugurus as being one of
the wettest areas in East Africa, rain caused only few problems, though we
experienced some heavy showers and some mornings and whole days with mist and
rain.
